I am sure you have seen all the success stories all over the Internet or even on eBay's website about all the people who have made fortunes selling there products on eBay, but what you don't here about is the thousands and thousands of people who tried to make money with eBay and failed. The truth is if you are trying to sell some of the old stuff in your attic or garage, you can make some extra money, but finding items worth thousands of dollars are few and far between, however you can still make money with eBay as a home business.
Do not go into this expecting to get rich overnight: you will be disappointed. Building any business takes time, money and effort. If you lack any of those ingredients, you will not make money. Before making the jump into entrepreneurship, ask yourself these questions. How much money do I have for shipping supplies, inventory, eBay fees, and unforeseen expenses? How much time do I have to devote to this business? Do I have the energy and drive to get this business off the ground or do I need to be asleep by 9pm every night?
Now, depending on how you answered these questions will let you know the best way to get started. You may only have enough time to start this part time, which is fine, everyone has to start somewhere. Don't forget it is going to take time for you to build your business to the point where you wont need a day job, but in the mean time, you can put in part time efforts and start building your business from there. On the other hand, you will, more than likely need to invest a little bit of money to get started for shipping supplies, inventory and eBay fees. If you are living paycheck to paycheck, you may need to start off selling some of the items you have around the house that you don't need or want anymore, in order to build a little money for the expenses listed above.
Now you know if you have the time and money to get started, so lets move on to the next question. What products are you going to put up for sale? This is where most people end up screwing up. They check out eBay and see that a lot of people are selling "widgets" so they jump in and sell "widgets" too. The problem is that so many people are selling them that the price is too low to make a profit, or your "widgets" don't sell at all, because they bought their "widget" from another person. When you login to eBay, they have marketing tools available to help you decide on products to sell, make sure you use these tools. Without the right products your not going to succeed.
When you use the tools mentioned above you will be able to choose the right niche so you can start to make money with eBay. Also you may want to start off with just a few items. It would be rather pointless for you to try to compete with a seller that has a entire warehouse full of inventory and a eBay rating in the thousands, you simply cant compete, YET. Try to find a niche that also relates to something you are interested in. This will make your experience more enjoyable. And by keeping your product list small to begin with, you will be able to build your business slowly, just like any normal business. This is the best approach if you truly want to make money with eBay.
Before long the individuals you're marketing to will certainly come to believe in you plus your eBay score will also begin to increase. As your own eBay popularity starts to increase you might want to begin increasing your stock and marketing numerous products. As you begin to develop your online business gradually, you might get to the level in which you could reduce the amount of time you're putting in at your regular job, and in time it is possible to make the transformation to be able to start selling on eBay full time.
